Happiest Place on Earth?

“Costa Rica comes top of the Happy Planet Index 2.0. Costa Ricans report the highest life satisfaction in the world, have the second-highest average life expectancy of the Americas (second only to Canada) and have an ecological footprint that means that the country only narrowly fails to achieve the goal of ‘one-planet living’: consuming its fair share of the Earth’s natural resources.” The UN Happy Planet Index 2.0

Check out The Interactive Map. Find out How “Happy” the US is compared to Costa Rica.

Travel Preparations Part I

While I have studied the world with my students, I have traveled very little.  Not only am I creating this website, I gotta get the right kind of shoes, the right kind of shots, and the right kind of technology.  Thank goodness I already have my passport.  The teachers that are going are all connected via a NING.  Sort of a private facebook group. The topic that is getting the most energy so far is what technologies to bring in order to blog for and skype with our students. So far there isn’t a good answer. I think I will end up borrowing a netbook and bringing my itouch and hoping for the best. I have my blog set up so I can email to it. So I can only hope for some wifi.   I won’t be able to get phone service there–I was sort of hoping I could twitter, but probably not worth it. I don’t need any power adapters. I will need another memory card for my camera.  The most important thing I have to do is 1) work on the blog 2) get together with teachers so I can teach this and 3)   get an appointment at the travel clinic to get some shots! Yeah!. Oh and buy water proof closed toed shoes.

Franklin Teacher Travels to Costa Rica

I will be traveling with 25 other teachers to Costa Rica  November 2011. Students will have the opportunity to investigate this country before I go, follow me on my journey once I am there and follow up once I return. This website will offer links for their research and space for their questions &  projects, as well as a place for my pictures and stories.  This trip is sponsored by Toyota International Teacher Program whose mission is to offer teachers intensive environmental education opportunities that they can share with their students.
